oh how we love hummus

We really do love hummus.  It’s just so darn expensive and all the recipes out there call for tahini.  Do you know how hard it is to find tahini?  You do, I’m sure you will understand then how very happy I was to find this awesome recipe from Adrienne at Whole New Mom.  It’s fast and easy to make even when your three year old totally wants to help.

Savory Hummus

3 1/2 cups of soaked, cooked, and drained garbanzo beans (you can also use canned beans)

2 cloves garlic or 1 tsp garlic from a jar

10 Tbsp water (more or less depending on how thick you like your hummus)

2 Tbsp olive oil

2 Tbsp sesame oil (you can use all olive oil, but i like the combination)

4 Tbsp lemon juice

2 tsp cumin

2 tsp coriander

a teeny tiny pinch of crushed red pepper

1 1/2 tsp salt (you may not need quite as much if you use canned beans)

Put everything in order into a heavy duty blender (like a vitamix) or a food processor.  Mix it up.  It will take anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes for it to get really smooth depending on your equipment.

Eat it with pita bread, tortilla chips, carrots (muf’s favorite), or anything else that catches your fancy.  Super yummy and oh so good for you.

  1. It’s so nice to see a little boy eating healthy carrots! I wish there were more kids out there that ate healthier foods. For a long time, my little brother’s favorite vegetable was baby carrots. When we would go into the store, he would always point to the produce section and ask if we could please get some organic baby carrots for his snack time! You should have seen the looks on the faces of the other customers. LOL!
